FAITH BIBLE STUDY
Thursday MorningsWinter 2012
Faith Bible Study is held on Thursday mornings, from September through May, from 10:00-11:20 a.m. in the Fireside Room. Led weekly by Dr. Mehl, this scripture study engages adults in interactive and deep study of scripture with brief reading assignments each week. Currently, we are tackling Paul's Prison Letters. Learning materials are provided at a modest cost to each participant. All are welcome to join at any time! The only credentials needed is a hunger to share in God's Word. And the best coffee in town is served at each session! Call the Church Office at

FEASTING ON THE WORD
Sunday Mornings Pastors' Bible Study
Adults see the world through the filter of life experience and life transitions and so we read the Bible with a variety of views. Join the pastors any Sunday at 9:45 am for Feasting on the Word to engage an easy-yet-deeper exploration of the biblical texts and sermon for the day. You’ll be fascinated by the different ways that we all hear the weekly sermon and read the Biblical texts! No weekly commitment required; come as you are able.

SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES FOR DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES
Sundays, February 5 and 12
Why are different Christians drawn to different types of worship and prayer? Why do some of us prefer contemporary worship music, while others prefer traditional worship practices? Why do some prefer practicing spiritual disciplines which are contemplative and quiet while others prefer to pray while participating in activities? Perhaps our worship preferences have less to do with our theological beliefs and more to do with our differing personalities. This study encourages participants to reflect on our church's program and worship services while reflecting on one's own spiritual disciplines for meaningful participation. Connect with lay leaders Donna Alexander and Jerre May as congregants investigate....WHY GO TO CHURCH?Sundays, February 19 and 26
Do we need "organized religion" in order to be a people of faith? To those who use these two words interchangeably this may seem an absurd question, but to others there is a real distinction; and while religious people pretty much always consider themselves faithful, faithful people don't always consider themselves religious. This topic is sure to bring on a lively discussion!
Join lay leader Bill Biedenstein as St. Lucas participants pray, read, and study.... BIBLICAL ACCOUNTS OF THE CRUCIFIXIONSundays, March 11 and 18
Jesus' crucifixion invites many kinds of questions. How did it happen? Who, exactly, was responsible? What did his death and resurrection accomplish? What does the execution of an innocent man from first-century Galilee mean for the world today? All these questions deserve our attention. This two-part study only opens the door to deeper reflection upon Jesus' crucifixion. Its focus is the New Testament, the ways in which selected writings portray or refer to Jesus' death and, in the process, interpret the meaning of that event.

A brand new study awaits the women of St. Lucas … James: Mercy Triumphs.
Will you accept the opportunity, challenge and resulting JOY??? Bible scholars compare James to the prophet Amos. His writings more closely resemble the Book of Proverbs than any New Testament book. Concepts such as joy, hardship, faith, the tongue, humility, and wisdom will be explored. Come along with Beth Moore on a journey to get to know both the man and the Book of James. You will never be the same. Beth designed the course offering 5 levels of participation: video sessions only; video sessions and weekly homework; video sessions, homework and handwriting the Book of James; or all of the preceding plus the opportunity for additional in-depth reading. The fifth level offers the option of memorizing the Book of James. All tiers use the same workbook; you simply choose which level seems most "doable" for you right now.
Join us for this 8 week faith journey Friday mornings from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. beginning February 10 and concluding April 13. (We will not meet on March 23 or April 6.) Please contact Dianne Stever at 314-849-4522 if you are interested in signing up for this study.
