Victory and Giving Garden Dedication on

Sunday Morning, March 21, 2010

The dedication ceremony was held in the rain and cold. We gathered under the pavilion and felt warm in the mission of the gardens and their meaning for us and the community.

The St. Lucas Victory Garden is located on the north side of historic St. Lucas Cemetery between the workshop and the pavilion. Forty raised beds were constructed by many hands! Each bed is 4' x 10' and constructed of direct ground contact lumber and a combination of 50% Meramec River top soil, 25% mulch, and 25% manure. Our thanks to Norrenbern Lumber and Fritz Landscaping for their generous contributions.

The Giving Garden consists of 10 beds and is tended to by the leadership group and their group of volunteers. They are responsible for the planning, planting, weeding, watering and the harvesting of a variety of vegetables for donation to Joint Neighborhood Ministry. Please contact Jerry Pensel at 849-1582 if you would like to help with this worthwhile endeavor.

There are still several "public" beds available which may be rented at a cost of $50.00 for a two year period. Each "tenant" is responsible for their own planting, weeding, fertilizing, watering...etc...
Water hook-ups are easily accessible. Contact Committee Chairperson, Chris Gumper at
314-849-6495 if you are interested.  Come Grow with Us!!!
